Happy New Year!

Rockmelon seedlings

The start of my year of wwoofing!  I began my wwoofing last year really, with 5 weeks at Hepburn.  The picture is of some Rockmelon (canteloupe) seedlings.  The garden bed they are in was one I helped to clear of weeds, before mixing in shovelfuls of goat manure, planting the seeds and covering them with a cloche.  The grass mulch is from grass on the property that was mown and then raked up by myself and my fellow wwoofers to be used as mulch on the veggie beds.  If it’s mown before it goes to seed it’s safe to do this.  As I was wwoofing in Nov/Dec, a lot of my time was spent preparing veggie beds by weeding, and raking up mown and slashed grass for mulch.   It’s not all hard work though, I also got to pick and eat the first cherries of the season!
